Android 5.0 Lollipop announced as the most ambitions mobile platform to date
Google presented the latest version of Android called Lollipop
Without a special press event and fanfares, Google unveiled its new OS version named after a popular dessert – Lollipop. This approach was expected considering the fact we knew everything about the OS from June 2014.
With Android 5.0, Google promises more flexibility for both developers and users. This very ambitious platform opens more than 5000 APIs to any interested developers, so you can expect more customization options and extended capabilities for current and upcoming apps.
Google has improved the synchronization across devices so your settings, searches, apps, music, will be synchronized across phones, tablets, and TVs. Consistent user experience on different screen sizes is one of the novelties Google is proud of. The new design has been called Material Design, promising more fluid transition between different tasks. One of the coolest new features in Android 5.0 is the ability to control the phone directly from the lock screen and specify which notifications you want to be shown during a private meeting or event. Google has also improved the battery consumption, which should give you additional 90 minutes of usage time
The first devices on the market running 5.0 Lollipop will be the Nexus 6 phone and the Nexus 9 tablet. Both devices go on sale in late October, early November. Then the update will roll out to many old devices such as the Nexus 4,5,6, 10 followed by non-Google branded devices. All latest phones and tablets will be able to get the update including Galaxy S4,S5, Xperia Z series, LG G2 & G3 and more.
