A new 5-inch YotaPhone with a 4.7-inch e-ink display on the back
YotaPhone presented a new Android phone with e-ink display on the back
Yota Devices today presented its second phone with an e-ink display at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The new device is different than its predecessor as it has two touchscreen displays providing a better user experience and extra functionality. The always on-ink display debuted in the first YotaPhone with one clear mission – to provide convenience and save battery. It gave users the ability to see updates and notifications but it was hard to operate with separate touch sensitive section below. Now the new YotaPhone has a larger (4.7 inches) and fully touch-controlled second screen for a better user experience.
As the phone comes with an e-ink touchscreen display, the device lets users not just read information but interact. Users can respond immediately to calls or interact without activating the phone, just by touching the rear display which is always ready. In addition, the e-ink screen provides social notifications, updates and other information. Users can manage all personal accounts at one place and have an access to specially designed apps for EPD displays.
As far as the design, YotaPhone 2 is bigger, slimmer and rounder than its predecessor. It comes with well rounded corners, slimmer profile and rounded glass. The phone measures 144 x 69.5 x 8.9 mm and weighs 140 grams. There is a 5-inch full HD display up front, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor running at 2.3 GHz, 32GB of storage, two cameras (8MP + 2 MP) and a 2550 mAh battery. It is an LTE/4G capable device running the latest Android 4.4 KitKat. The pricing details haven’t been specified except that YotaPhone would cost 10% less than other high-end models. YotaPhone should launch before the end of 2014 in markets like Russia, Europe and Middle East.
