Samsung to launch the Galaxy Gear 2 at a lower price point
The original Samsung Galaxy Gear was way too expensive
The interest towards wearables on the market has started growing bigger the last couple of months, though in the beginning many people were quite sceptical. When Samsung released its Samsung galaxy Gear, the device didn’t really sell as the company would have expected and the total sales of gears reached barely 800,000 units on a global scale. On one hand, smartwatches weren’t that popular back then, and on the other, Samsung’s wearable gear was way too expensive. In order to get in the right rhythm, the Korean manufacturer made a Jason Voorhees-like slash on the price by $120 in India few days ago and now the device is available for $220 on the Indian market. This is a good beginning for turning things around a little bit, as the Galaxy Gear couldn’t sell well due the retail price of $350 and furthermore, the Korean giant is now even considering a more reasonable price for the next generation of the smartwatch.
Samsung is getting ready to unveil the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 at MWC this month and according to the latest reports, the gear will be completely different offering to the original model. Besides that, the smartwatch will feature a flexible screen and a completely different design. The great news is that the Korean manufacturer is considering selling a unit for under $299 that is also the suggested price tag of the upcoming Apple iWatch. Since Samsung will be targeting Apple once again by directly rivalling their smartwatch, the considered price cut seems quite accurate; however the final decision will rest with its partners. The iWatch, on the other hand, is still at the speculation state, so we can’t tell much here, but Samsung will go ahead for the moment with the flexible screen and added functionality for less than $299.
