BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 lets users install Android apps seamlessly
BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 starts rolling out, brings many improvements and changes
BlackBerry presented yesterday a new software update to its mobile platform. BlackBerry OS updates to 10.2.1 and the new version promises to be far more productive than ever. All new changes and refinements might finally return the mobile OS on track and make the platform really competitive giving the consumers more options on the market. In fact, Microsoft’s platform has increased its share at the expense of Blackberry and one of the main advantages of Windows Phone is considered to be a much larger selection of apps. Well, it looks like with BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 the situations changes dramatically.
With the new update (already rolling out to some devices) all BlackBerry owners will be able to install Android apps seamlessly. The previous version of the OS also allowed users to run Android apps, but the installation process was tough and clumsy. The Verge has already tested the new OS and the results show that users won’t have any troubles installing Android apps. Only Google native apps were reported to cause issues, as BlackBerry 10 originally doesn’t support Google Play functions.
The BlackBerry 10.2.1 update also includes:
- Improved BlackBerry hub that lets you filter the message list
- New incoming call screen with intuitive icons
- SMS and Email groups
- Picture password – lets you unlock the phone pointing on a particular area on the picture combined with a number from 0 to 9
- Custom quick settings – lets users customize the Settings menu
- Offline browser reading
- Improved battery monitor
- FM radio for the high-end models
- Automatic updates
- Improved security for enterprise users
