Mobile Malware Preferred Android Users Last Year, with 99 Percent of All Mobile Malware Preying on Android
Mobile malware is a pesky hassle. Cisco’s annual security report which can be found here gives some statistics on that. According to it, last year 99 percent of all the mobile malware around targeted Android devices. The most vulnerable to it were Android users who were on the search for pirated software. They searched for it in alternate markets. They were mostly hit by Andr/Qdplugin-A. The malware is installed with repackaged copies which are made for legitimate apps. Then it goes on to create more hassles. It starts to download other packages. These are sources of problems galore. Problems caused by the other packages range from botnets to Trojan dialers. These gather plenty of costs. They do that by calling not ordinary numbers. They call premium rated numbers. But handsets were not the only places where mobile malware started feeling as snug as a bug in a rug. The web browser was also a dangerous spot for Android users.
The percentage of Android users is hefty. They account for 71 percent of all mobile device users worldwide. They are the predominant majority of users. But they are also the most targeted by mobile malware. They have the highest rates of encountering all forms of malware scouring around. Such mobile malware can include types such as phishing and likejacking. There are also forced redirects to sites different from the sites that Android users want to open. There are also plenty of social engineering malware that are on the lookout for Android devices to infect them and do their nasty job.
It can be concluded that the open platform that Android users have at their disposal also creates predicaments. Users who are exposed to risks of mobile malware have to think about how they can take care of their security.
