Samsung in talks with Deezer for a possible partnership around online music streaming
The French online music streaming service Deezer in talks with Samsung
A commercial agreement between Deezer, French online music group, and Samsung could be signed soon, according to a publication in Reuters. Both companies are reportedly in talks for incorporating the music streaming service into the Samsung’s mobile devices.
Deezer, a service created in 2006, has currently 12 million users around the globe from which around 5 million are paid subscribers. All users have an access to more than 30 million tracks free for the first 12 months. After the initial period, the users can subscribe choosing among the few paid plans which will remove the ads and give them unlimited music streaming on any device.
Deezer is currently available in 182 countries and the company has already signed agreements with leading OEMs such as LG and Toshiba. The service is similar to Spotify, a Swedish based commercial streaming service launched in 2008. Currently, Spotify has 20 million users and 5 million paying subscribers. In order to make the service more popular Spotify AB has recently enabled free unlimited music streaming for all customers using the desktop version. The paying subscribers get ad-free streaming on any mobile device.
Another French company, Dailymotion, is reportedly in talks with Microsoft. The video sharing service is exploring different alternatives in order to take on YouTube on the US market. Orange, the company with a 75% stake in Dailymotion was reportedly discussing selling its shares to Yahoo in May, but the deal fell through after the French industry minister slammed the idea that the music start-up could be devoured by Americans.
Both companies, Deezer and Dailymotion declined to comment the news.
