A new version of the Asus PadFone mini introduced at CES 2014
The New PadFone Mini has a 4-inch display and a 1.6 GHz processor
Introducing different smartphone variants under the same name is not something new for most of the manufacturers. In this light, Asus presented its new PadFone mini. Here at CES 2014, the company unveiled a rather different version than the model presented in December in Taiwan. Of course, both variants share many of the innards, but if we compare some key elements, we are looking at two completely different products.
Lets try to compare both models. The version presented in Taiwan and the model unveiled at CES 2014 in Las Vegas come with the same tablet dock – it has a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The dock includes an extra battery for powering the smartphone. Both PadFone mini include 8 MP cameras with the Pixel Master technology. As far as the connectivity options, they are completely identical in both versions.
Where is the difference? The new Asus PadFone mini 4.0 includes a smaller screen – 4-inches across diagonals, compared with a 4.3 inch screen in the version announced in December. The screen resolution is different too – 800 x 480 for the 4-inch model, in comparison with a 960 x 540 pixel resolution for the 4.3 inch PadFone Mini. Importantly, the processor inside both variants is different too. The previous model has a dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor at 1.4 GHz, while the new PadFone Mini is powered by a 1.6 GHz processor Intel Atom.
Finally, both models run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but the more recent 4-inch Asus PadFone mini can be updated soon to Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Details about price and availability haven’t been disclosed. According to our information, Asus is planning to launch the PadFone mini in Q2 2014.
