Samsung might move to PLS LCD for Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4

So far, thanks to insiders, we know that Galaxy S5 will enter production in January alongside with Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 and will launch sometime in April. Moreover, the Korean media has tipped that the smartphone will not include an OIS camera as Samsung is currently dealing with issues in terms of featuring optical image stabilization in devices.

Few days ago, another Korean site shared that Samsung is getting ready to return to AMOLED screens once again. This got many people hype as they certainly expect both Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 to launch with such display technology.

Today we received rumors that might not bring good news to the anticipators. ETNews has just shared the next inside information that Samsung will use PLS LCD displays for Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4. Basically, this makes sense, as that would reduce the production costs by 20%.

As you already know, the Korean company used that technology for its tablets, for example the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, and is clearly ready to adopt it for its phones as well. Some of you might think that lacking an OIS camera is one thing, but manufacturing a high-end device with a PLS LCD instead of AMOLED screen is outrageous.

Before you decide this is a deal-breaker, let’s first look at the advantages that LCD displays have over the AMOLED screens. Surely the AMOLED displays are brighter and offer a more vivid picture, especially the true blacks, however the LCD ones will help you experience more natural colors and will drain your battery less in any usage scenarios.
