Bluetooth 4.1 reveals the future of interconnected smart devices
The main focus lies on the improved usability that will make sure Bluetooth and LTE radios
One of the most important technologies that come to transform your mobile device into a powerhouse of functionality is the Bluetooth. Its basic task is to make you forget about the wires and connect your device into other devices, computers, car and accessories wirelessly and all of this with a low consumption of energy. Now the Bluetooth Special Interest Group announced their Bluetooth 4.1 and all its new features and tweaks. As it was promised in May, a new version would come in few months that will significantly reduce the usage of power without lowering the data speed or the operation range. Basically, even if the BT 4.1 isn’t a radical change, it surely brings real improvement compared to the previous 4.0 version. So let’s have a look of what we should expect from the latest version.
The main focus lies on the improved usability that will make sure Bluetooth and LTE radios won’t interfere with each other in terms of transmission and will cooperate perfectly. Both radios will finally coexist and communicate so they could ensure that both transmissions won’t receive a near band interference. Furthermore, in Bluetooth 4.1 the devices will have a better connection as they will automatically reconnect when in proximity of one another. Basically, the users will be able to leave the room and they can rest assure that in case something happens, the devices will reconnect without needing the users’ intervention.
So far this sound great, but how about the data transfer? This one has also been improved as the sensors that gather data will be able to transfer it more efficiently on their own when the user is out.
In addition to all of this, BT 4.1 has been made a lot easier for developers to use it as the technology will let any kind of device be a peripheral and a hub at the same time. A simple example is that a smartwatch gear can act as a hub and gather info from a monitor and at the meantime it can be also the peripheral to a smartphone as it displays new notifications from the same smartphone.
Of course, it will take some time for the BT 4.1 version to roll out into devices, especially for Android ones. Stay tuned.
