Apple looking at three different-sized flexible displays for their iWatch
It seems that not only Samsung is looking deep in the flexible displays with interest. There are now rumors that Apple is, as well, thinking of applying flexible displays into one of their upcoming device. Probably by this point you are already guessing which one is it. Yes, it is the iWatch.
It seems surely that Apple is testing flexible OLED displays in a variety of sizes for the coming iWatch. Korean media reports that the giant company is looking into the technology and this can only mean one thing LG or Samsung are producing them.
Although both companies can make bendable displays LG seems like the more likely choice, however, since Samsung is already rumored to produce 30 to 40% of the A8 chips we may as well expect that they are going to have to make the displays as well.
Besides YOUM prototypes Samsung already showed back at CES there are not other devices with the technology, most probably because of the low yields that go with the technology for now, however, we may see them more often in the near future.
Apple is mulling 1.3″, 1.4″ and 1.5″ sizes, and “a prototype of the 1.5-inch has already been made,” according to the publication so we can expect even more leaks and information fairly soon. The iWatch as most smartwatch devices now is expected to work along other devices of the company.
Namely all iOS gadgets and it seems that the iWatch is being developed along with fitness and health experts so it is expected to be much more health focused and to have application that extends beyond the content notification and the Siri voice control.
For now we have to wait and see what Apple will offer and what part of it will be manufactured by Samsung.
