Android is becoming more popular platform for tablets than iOS, results shared by ABI Research
The dynamics in the mobile world are very intensive and not always predictable. The latest research provided by ABI Research reveals that we are now seeing changes in the leadership on the tablets market, giving a slight advantage to the Android running slates. Apple has been the leader in the mobile world in terms of tablets. The company was among the first to introduce the high-end tablets on the market and it managed to develop and improve the models to keep users’ interest and satisfy their needs. Apple set the standards in the tablets field.
This year sets a significant change in the leadership of the platforms that power the modern tablets. The new leader is Android OS. According to the ABI Research, the numbers from the Q2 for 2013 include 14.5 million units of iOS running slates sold compared to the 30.5 million tablets that work on Android OS.
The success of the platform of Google comes also from the fact that the companies that release the Android running slates won the biggest part of the revenue. This is happening for first time in the history of tablets. For the second quarter of 2013, nearly $12.7 billion of revenue came from sales of tablets. The share of the Apple’s tablets was less than 50% which means that Android running slates receive most of the revenue. The share of the other platforms is way below those numbers. something very interesting revealed by the ABI Research company is that the average price for the iPad’s has dropped down with 17% while the Android running tablets sell for average price increased with 17%. The reason for the decreasing of the iPad’s price might be because of the growing interest of users to iPad mini tablet. One thing is certain – the Android running tablets are becoming more and more popular. The “fight” for the leadership on the tablets arena will be brutal in the coming months and years.
