Surface Phone was considered by Microsoft
Everything around the deal between Nokia and Microsoft is really interesting now, however, there was information before the agreement between Nokia and Microsoft was struck that there might be an Android Nokia smartphone.
On Friday, on the other hand, another piece of information came out that Nokia and the giant software company Microsoft had produced a Microsoft Surface smartphone. With all of this abundance of information of various sources one could easily be confused what is the correct one, although they both may be correct.
For now it seems that Terry Myerson is in charge of the Surface Phone. Myerson is the man, who is now taking care of Windows Phone and Xbox operating systems. He has also had severe influence on leading Microsoft in prototype devices. The devices that were created were finished just in case if Nokia decided to back off the deal.
The situation would become increasingly volatile at least from Microsoft’s perspective because Nokia holds 80% of the Windows Phone market and if the Finnish manufacturer considered offering Android a chance that would put Windows Phone and Microsoft in very uncomfortable position.
What is more it seemed that Nokia is really getting tired of Microsoft always pushing the manufacturer to produce for the low-end of the spectrum and not strive to compete with the leaders in the market.
Nokia was ready to really dip into Android and do something similar to Amazon, releasing a low-end device with mediocre specs in early 2014, however, when the deal between Nokia and Microsoft is officially closed we can say goodbye to such expectations and aspires.
We are not expecting neither Nokia to try to build an Android smartphone, nor Microsoft trying to make a Microsoft Surface Phone. However, let’s not be so conclusive. Maybe there is some mystery that we have yet to uncover.
