Motorola Moto X “dev edition” available soon with more carriers to choose from
Today the new Motorola Moto X was released on AT&T along with the now famous Moto Maker customization tool. The tool will be exclusively available only on AT&T until November. However, the word from the Vice president of Product Management Punit Soni said quickly in a Google+ update that the device itself will soon appear on other retailers. It was short more of a Twitter length message which said “Step 1 of rollout. Dev editions, other carrier versions rolling out in days.” For now there has not been any official announcement to when exactly will the date of the release be but it is expected before the end of August, although, it has not been confirmed yet at least for Verizon and Sprint.
For now it is also unknown if the so-called “dev edition” will be sold directly on the Google Play Store. We know for now that the Motorola Moto X will be sold on the Google Play Store and that it will not be a Google Edition device. Which marks another unknown for the coming device, despite that, we know that all devices on Google Play Store are sold carrier unlocked but not necessarily Bootloader unlocked as you would expect in a true developer device.
Furthermore there is still a lot of uncertainty about the release of the devices and what is Motorola planning to do with the Moto Maker after November. However, in spite of all the information there might be a few new things which we would see in the coming releases of the Motorola Moto X on the other carriers. We will be following closely the development of all the problems mentioned and we will inform you about any changes or new information or potential news that might come up from any of the participants of all companies.
