HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition are getting 4.3 Android
When the Google Play Editions of both HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 were already available on the market it was announced that not Google but the manufacturers themselves will control the roll-out which led to a severe discussion to whether there would be significant delays in the rolling out of the software or not. Well as it turns out even if you are particularly petty about this kind of stuff you don’t need to worry. The new version of Android – 4.3 is now available for OTA updates – a little over a week after it was announced. All the fears about delays are unfounded and it seems that both from HTC and Samsung are working hard to make those updates available as quickly as possible. Updates like TRIM command, Bluetooth Smart support, a smarter dial pad, Open GL ES 3.0, restricted user profiles, and virtual surround sound are now all available and they are only respectively 150MB and 180MB for the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition and the HTC One Google Play Edition. In addition to that there seem to be also a few new changes added specifically for the phone manufacturers. The changes include slightly larger homescreen icons and the dock icons seem now to be evenly distributed.
Another highly expected change on the new HTC One Google Play Edition is the IR blaster which would allow the device to be used as a remote. It seems that the two Google Play Edition phones, which both run stock Android, are currently being updated to Android 4.3 but as with all OTA updates there should be a little patience in the users as these kind of updates are rolled-out progressively in order to notice any possible problems with the update itself and to satisfy the biggest portion of the users that they service.
