Google Nexus 7 II hands-on

Introduction

Google Nexus 7 II – one of the most expected tablets on the market has been revealed recently. It seems loaded with power and low in price. The 32 GB version is offered with and without 3G and the 16 GB is Wi-Fi only. It is made by ASUS on Google’s behalf and its price was set on a something like a benchmark of only $229 despite it is a pretty decent build and does not lack anything Google have decided not to put too big a price. With a very thick market and a lot of competitors like Acer and Amazon it was exciting to see what Google has to offer.

Design

Its design is new and stylish it is pretty comfortable to hold and it does not seem too bi even though it is a tablet. It is pretty slim and compact when you come to think of its size 114 x 200 x 8.65mm and weight 0.64lbs (290g) Wi-Fi, 0.66lbs (299g) LTE. Overall the design is not completely new but it seem to work and this is probably why Google are holding on to it. It is comfortable and really good to touch.

Display

The display is one of the things that Google have underlined because it is brand new not only for the tablet Google Nexus 7 II but also for the market. It seems that they have managed to create the best tablet display with some pretty amazing specs. It is 7.02” 1920×1200 FULL HD display and it seems that the few extra added in the resolution is working great. It’s got a huge pixel density and according to Google it is the tablet with the biggest picture density out on the market (323 ppi). And it certainly is amazing. Of course, it is 1080p HD IPS and the glass for the display is Scratch resistant Corning® Glass so it want be damaged easily and it seems that it will be quite durable.

Software

When it comes to software we already knew what to expect, of course, it is a Google tablet so the Android OS was the only and probably the best choice and it is the newest Android. And for now it is the first and only device that features Android Jelly Bean, 4.3.

 Hardware

First of all the new Google tablet is equipped with the usual GPS, Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Compass, Ambient Light sensors that provide the whole experience. It is powered by a battery that supports 3950 mAh (Up to 9 hours of active use), 9 hrs of HD video playback,10 hrs of web browsing or e-reading, 300 hrs of standby, which is rather normal for a tablet of such rank and with this size the battery seems to be enough to provide the needed hours to get you through a whole day of using without any problems. Then it is the processor Qualcomm Snapdragon™ S4 Pro quad-core processor, 1.5GHz which also seems to provide enough power and efficiency to make the usage of the tablet snappy and quick. The memory is the standard 16GB or 32GB internal storage (formatted capacity will be less). The GPU is Adreno 320, 400 MHz so we can rely on pretty efficient and beautiful graphics that are really nicely displayed by the amazing FULL HD display with the highest pixel density. The RAM of the processor is 2 GB which also seems enough and is quite up to standard. When it comes to connectivity Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4G/5G) 802.11 a/b/g/n, NFC (Android Beam), Bluetooth but there seems to be some regional difference as in North America the tablet will be offered with 4G LTE: 700/750/850/1700/1900/2100 MHZ (Bands: 1/2/4/5/13/17) HSPA+: 850/900/1900/2100/AWS(1700/2100) MHz (Bands: 1/2/4/5/8), GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and in Europe we can expect Europe:4G LTE: 800/850/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600 MHz (Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/20),HSPA+: 850/900/1900/2100/AWS(1700/2100) MHz (Bands: 1/2/4/5/8)GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz. There are also MicroUSB , SlimPort™, 3.5mm audio jack so nothing new in the external ports. It is important to mention that the Google Nexus 7 II also supports NFC connecting so it is even easier now to share all kinds of pictures and information.

Camera

When we talk about the camera we can certainly say that there is a considerable improvement. Although the cameras are usually neglected in tablets and they do not have much attention by developers here we can say that the 5 MP for the back camera are making the taking of picture better and there is also improvement in the front camera at least compared to some other devices it is set at 1.2 MP. The back camera has autofocus and the front is with fixed focus. We may as well add here that it probably would steal the leadership from other devices and it is not only about this component but pretty much all of them.

Conclusion

We can safely claim that the new Google Nexus 7 II will be one pretty amazing piece of art as they used to say. It is supports a lof of various features that make it so unique from the great design and incredible size, through the new FULL HD display with the highest ppi in a tablet device and the brand new 4.3 Android update that is only featured in it for now, and we go to the solid hardware that it features with the Snapdragon processor making it run really smoothly. It is really a great deal to have one of these especially at such an affordable cost. These are just some of the main characteristics that make the tablet so competitive and really a way for Google to get into the market
