SK Telecom launches the first commercial LTE-Advanced mobile network
South Korea will be the first country in the world to get the most advanced LTE network. The LTE-A will bring the 4G speeds on a whole new level. Unlike the old LTE 4G networks, the new advanced technology allows higher speeds than the true LTE standard. Initially, the Korean network will support speeds up to 150 Mbps, which is about twice faster than the LTE 4G speeds in the USA available at the moment and about 10 times faster than the previous 3G networks, SK Telecom explains.
With these higher speeds consumers will get a superior user experience and they would enjoy plenty of new and attractive services. The LTE-A network will also lead to an improved quality of the services and improved customer’ satisfaction. According to SK Telecom’s president of business operations Park In-sik, the LTE-Advanced network could bring many innovative changes to the mobile world.
The higher speeds of the LTE-A in SK Telecom’s network will be achieved through two frequencies which will be bundled together to increase the bandwidth. SK Telecom explains that the LTE-A network will evolve with the time and in 2015 the carrier promises speeds around 500 Mbps.
The launch of the new LTE Advanced network in South Korea is connected with the new Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE-A, which is designed in cooperation between the carrier and Samsung. The device is specially designed to take advantage of the network speeds. The device was confirmed earlier this month is now official and it will be world’s first device to support these new types of networks. All that means we won’t see the new handset in other parts of the world, since the LTE-A network development in the other countries is in an early stage.
