Summary of the first day of Google I/O 2013
We had so many questions and expectations about the major event Google I/O 2013, and now, after day one from the conference is over, we are excited to summarize what new Google has to offer. Google introduced improved features of Search and Maps, a new Hangouts app, Google+ with a better functionality and appearance and the amazing special edition of Samsung Galaxy S4, designed for Google that runs stock Android. Those who had the chance to watch Google I/O 2013 listened to the impressive opening speech of the CEO of Google, Larry Page. The session with Q&A followed.
May be some of us are still disappointed by the fact that there were no announcements for a new version of Android (the rumored Android 4.3). However, day one brought us a bunch of interesting announcements and events that will continue evoking discussion long after the event is over. Special edition of Samsung Galaxy S4
The introduction to the special edition of Samsung Galaxy S4 was among the most expected things for the event. Now, it is a fact. This impressive handset runs stock Android 2.3, JB, and it is equipped with 16GB storage memory, which is expandable via microSD card. Galaxy S4 will be supported by two of the major US carriers, T-Mobile and AT&T. The official release date of the device will be 26th of June, this year, at the price rate of $649, offered on Google Play. It comes GSM-unlocked.
Google announced new services on Google Play
Just at expected, Google I/O 2013 brought significant updated to Google Play Services. The most impressive part is that the updates will be available without the need for a new version of Android. Among the updated services is the Google Cloud Messenger which now provides new features, upstream messaging etc. Three new battery friendly location APIs were introduced to assure major cut down on power usage in the variety of location-sensitive applications.
Great improvements in Google Play game services
The upgrades of the Google play services were among the most exciting innovations that we all anticipated. Now, Google provides the services with a support for cloud based games saves and includes achievements, leaderboards etc.
Google Hangouts, the heritor of Google Talk
Do you miss the popular app Google Talk? Google Hangouts proudly takes its place. It is built in Gmail and Google+ and there will be an update available on Google Play. The highlights of Google Hangouts are the free group video chat and the completely improved user interface.
New fascinating Play Music app
In day one, Google officially announced the new subscription-based music service at price $9.99 for a monthly subscription. What Google promises is an All Access option, described as “radio without rules.”
Google Maps also gets a makeover
The new version of Google Maps was announced with a great visual improvement, new graphics, and better than ever search results, that are not integrated directly into the maps. We got a glimpse of the upcoming version of Maps for Android that fascinated with great graphics, big search bar etc.
New features for Google Search
Google presented us with the newest voice-based search experience that brings the Google Search to a whole new level. Even more, users can use the option for “hot words” that enable them to use their own data for specific searches. the smart features in Google Search work great through Chrome to use the history and the context of previous searches and understand neutral words, such as “there” and “it.”
