Sony to release devices for the entry market
According to the specialists, Sony is going to expand its business on the entry market and the mid-range market with new Android devices. This will be a good addition to the tolerable sales of the new flagship of the company Sony Xperia Z. After its release, the device became a top-selling device in Japan and held that position for six consecutive weeks since February 9 (its release date). Now there are insufficient units of the model in Europe and Taiwan, says the president of Sony Mobile in Taiwan Jonathan Lin.
In addition to the high-end Sony Xperia Z, the company released the entry-level Sony Xperia E on some markets. The device has 1GHz processor Qualcomm MSM 7227A, a 3.2MP camera and a 3.5’’ display. It will be manufactured by Arima Communications. In addition to it, Sony announced two mid-range phones models – Sony Xperia L and Sony Xperia SP. They were unveiled in Taiwan and will be available in Q2 2013.
Sony Xperia L will have a 4.3’’ display with FWVGA resolution, a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, an 8MP camera and will support NFC HDR. The device will be outscored to Compal Communications. Sony Xperia SP has even better specifications for a mid-range device and it seems that the two devices will be something like internal rivals. Moreover, Sony is rumoured to be preparing a 5-inch entry-level smartphone in Q3 2013, which will have a quad-core MediaTek processor and will be outscored to Arima again.
All in all, three companies – Foxconn International, Arima and Compal are expected to ship about 8-10 million units of Sony smartphones during 2013.
