Vine for Android under development
Back in January we saw another app that we can’t use on Android – Vine. We got a reminder of that, along with web embeds news and a new version of the iOS-based app. Vine was released at the beginning of the year and it was obvious that the app targeted the users of iOS. This doesn’t mean that Vine didn’t plan to release an Android app, in fact, the case was quite the opposite. A job posting created by Vine stated that the company is looking for a skilful Android engineer which, on its turn, hinted that an Android app is on its way. However, the company hasn’t stated anything particular and since the job post we have not heard any new hints of development.
Until today, when we were reminded of the ability of the application to create 6-second looping videos. For a pity, unavailable for Android. So we tried to find another app instead of Vine and it appeared that there are no alternatives. There are different social video apps, but they are not as good as Vine, which offers simplicity and vast network. The case is just like Instagram before the Android version was released – there was nothing to use instead of it.
There are some options, yes but they surely are not as Vine. However, you can install a tool to open Vine files on Android – Vine viewer. This is a bit frustrating – you can open Vine videos wherever you like, but you can’t create them. However, the latest news suggest that we will get something more than watching videos on our Android devices. And, given the mentioned web embeds, it seems that more and more Vine videos will be around us.
Our further actions will be waiting for official news by Vine. To be sure, nobody will turn away from their Android device and turn to iPhone just for Vine’s sake. At least, that’s our opinion. What do you think?
