900 000 in Apple App Store
According to the figures, the apps in Apple App Store have reached their peak and are now 900 000, which is more than what is in Google Play Store. However, whether they are better than the Android apps, it is hard to say. From those 900 000, about 375 000 are native to iPad, or, in other words, are built especially for iPad. So, since January 2013 the Apple App Store has added about 125 000 applications. Back in January, they had only 775 000 apps, and it seems that the growth through the years has been a fast one (it has been productive, really, but what about the quality?).
In July 2008 there were only 800 applications in the Apple App Store. However, in September 2008 their number grew to 3000. About half a year later, in March 2009 we saw 25 000 apps in the Apple App Store. In April the same year they were already 35 000. Till the next April 150 000 more apps joined the Apple App Store (June 2009 – 50 000, July 2009 – 65 000, September 2009 – 85 000, November 2009 – 100 000, January 2010 – 140 000).
Till March next year we already saw 350 000 apps in the Apple App Store, 65 000 of which were native for iPad. The periods growth looks like this: May 2010 – 200 000 apps (5 000 native to iPad), June 2010 – about 225 000 and 8 500 for iPad, September 2010 – 250 000, 1/10 of which native to iPad, November 2010 – 400 000, 1/10 of which native to iPad.
From March 2011 till April 2012 the apps increased to 600 000 (and 200 000 of which native to iPad): in March 2011 – 350 000, 65 000 iPad native; in June 2011 – 425 000, 90 000 of which native to iPad, in July 2011 the number of native apps for iPad became 100 000, in October 2011 – 140 000 out of 500 000 apps in total.
And the last period – from June 2012 till June 2013 passed as follows: June 2012 – 650 000 apps, 225 000 of which designed for iPad, September 2012 – 700 000 apps, 250 000 of then iPad Native, January 2013 – 775 000, 300 000 of which iPad Native and now, in June 2013 – 900 000 apps, 375 000 of which native to iPad.
All in all, the growth is tremendous and the Apple App Store has seen over 50 billion downloads.
